On the heels of their unflattering letter to enforce their artists’ performance upkeep, Sheraton Cadwell Group has informed their staff that they will be ceasing operations, effective immediately.

The complete text of the email was forwarded to us by a singer with the organisation. Titled “Attention: All Members < Resignation >” and dated August 24th, 1:41pm, the memo reads:

Dear Members:

In consideration of recent events in our personal lives, we hope that you would accept our notice of resignation with immediate effect.

With our resignation, our financial funding for the SHERATON CADWELL community service project & music training program will also be terminated forthwith with much regret and, as such, the entire organisation will cease to exist in due course.

We sincerely apologize for any embarrassment/harassment that you may experience from media representatives or other individuals/parties as a result of misconstrued/malicious allegations and extremely negative/destructive/evil intent.

It would be much appreciated if you would kindly help us dispose of, or recycle, all music folders & sheet music currently under your custodial care – on our behalf – as we will no longer have any use for them henceforth.

The pleasure & privilege has been ours to have had your good company over the last 14+ years.

Together, our various orchestral teams have done a lot of good work for less fortunate souls around the world and here, at home.

And like all good things, this particular humanitarian/charitable project has to also one day come to an end.

All of our corporate objectives/goals were achieved many years ago with your gracious voluntary contributions and kind indulgences.

As a corporate entity, we blossomed like a transient pretty little wild flower in the vast unforgiving Canadian wilderness over the years and served our purpose to our Creator for a long time with much humility, joy and good humour.

So now, with much sadness & sorrow in our hearts, it is time to accept & celebrate the inevitable passing/demise of yet another beautiful thing/experience in our lives.

Best wishes to you & your loved ones, as always!

The Management

Of note that in the email, the Orchestra also highlighted the role of the media and the public in propagating the initial story.

Lisa Hartl is a trumpet player and a past member of the Sheraton Cadwell network of orchestras. Hartl told Musical Toronto that her experience with the Group was not a positive one: “I found their correspondence in preparation for rehearsals and shows always to be questionable and condescending in nature. I’ve never experienced anything like it from any another personnel team, and this is why I discontinued working with them. Furthermore, they would send out regular ‘reports’ where each musician was critiqued (not constructively) publicly to all the members in a mass e-mail.”

Hartl expressed that she’s not surprised by the Group’s resignation. “I always wondered if they would take something too far and get themselves in trouble. It’s not fair to treat musicians—and human beings, for that matter—with so much disrespect.”

Ensembles formerly managed by Sheraton Cadwell Group include Toronto Starlight Orchestra, Wyndham Regency Orchestra, Philips Westin Orchestra, Orchestra Copacabana, Casablanca Orchestra, Sheraton Cadwell Orchestra, and Blue Champagne.
