After serving as Interim General Manager of Soundstreams for the past six months, Ben Dietschi has been officially appointed Executive Director of Soundstreams, effective today.

Soundstreams had originally hired Searchlight Recruitment to lead the search for a new executive director to take the place of Susan Worthington, who left in 2015 to take a position at the National Ballet School, as Theatre Operations and Production Manager.

The departure left a vacuum, which Dietschi had stepped in to fill temporarily in January 2016 until a suitable candidate could be found. The timing proved crucial as Soundstreams was undergoing the most ambitious programming season in its history.

Soundstreams later determined Dietschi’s background and intimate knowledge, as well as over three years with the organisation, made him the best-suited candidate to lead Soundstreams into the future.

“From Metcalf fellow, to Outreach Programs Manager, to Associate Director of External Relations, Ben has proven himself to be an invaluable member of the Soundstreams team,” said Soundstreams Artistic Director, Lawrence Cherney. “Ben combines outstanding qualities rarely found in an arts administrator. He has a deep understanding of artistic issues through his performing background and a real talent for bringing long-term vision to the minutiae of everyday business. It’s a powerful combination that will strongly lead us to new levels of achievement.”

“It’s a big job, but I am up for the task and eager to demonstrate how my training and experience have uniquely prepared me to build on the momentum and international attention Soundstreams has,” Dietschi stated in a press release. “I look forward to taking the company into new, innovative and exciting territory.”

In addition to having spent three years at Soundstreams working as an Outreach Programs Manager (and Associate Director of External Relations (, Dietschi holds advanced music degree from the University of Toronto, and is also an accomplished saxophonist with the jazz ensemble, Tunnel Six. In 2010, he launched an indie new music company Spectrum Music and was the recipient of a lucrative fellowship from the Metcalf Foundation.

We look forward to seeing what Ben Dietschi can do with Canada’s premiere contemporary music arts presenter.
