COFFEE BREAK | A Sneak Peak At Meryl Streep As Opera Singer Florence Foster Jenkins

By Ludwig Van on February 19, 2016

“Her singing at its finest suggests the untrammeled swoop of some great bird.” – Quote from an Florence Foster Jenkins concert goer

The official trailer for the much-anticipated biopic about amateur opera diva Florence Foster Jenkins has landed on the web.

Starring Academy Awad winner Meryl Streep, the film tells the story of the self-professed dilettante of opera, Florence Foster Jenkins, who despite not being able to hold a tune, managed to amass a large fan base of admirers who found her humorously entertaining.

Her fearless renditions of works such as Mozart’s Queen of Night aria garnered her much laughter during her performances, but the singer dismissed them all as “hoodlums … planted by her rivals.”

The notoriously wobbly singer was able to self-fund her late singing career using an inheritance from her deceased wealthy father, which landed her in all the way to Carnegie Hall.

Hugh Grant, as seen in the trailer, portrays her manager St Clair Bayfiel. The film also stars Tony winner Nina Arianda, Simon Helberg, and Rebecca Ferguson and is directed by Stephen Frears.

Florence Foster Jenkins is currently shooting in the U.K. and scheduled for theatrical release on May 6th, 2016.
