Berlin-based Classical:NEXT has nominated Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and The Art of Time Ensemble for a 2016 Innovation Award, which recognizes innovation in the classical music industry.
Out of a list of 30 ensembles and artists, only two Canadian groups were nominated to the long list. Nominees were selected by a committee of 19 journalists and industry experts from 17 countries worldwide.
“This award aims to give international recognition to the people who are doing the most to push things forward with daring yet intelligent, effective and successful “out-of-the-box” thinking, planning and action, said Classical:NEXT Director Jennifer Dautermann.
The Art of Time Ensemble was cited for their ongoing eclectic mix of programming which includes the core ensemble of musicians, composers, writers, dancers, actors and other artists founded by pianist Andrew Burashko.
Tafelmusik was singled out for their recording initiatives designed to creatively market towards new audiences. They were also cited for their wide range of “points of engagement,” which include pre- and post-concert talks and masterclasses, and for making concerts a part of a much wider artistic arsenal of activities.
The winner will be selected and announced in Rotterdam at an awards ceremony held on May 2016.
