THE SCOOP | 2016 JUNO Award Nominees Announced (Classical Music Category)

Elinor Frey’s Berlin Sonatas Nominated for Classical Album of the Year

Announced this morning at a press conference in Calgary, at 11 a.m. EST, the 2016 JUNO Award Nominees have been released. Each nominee will participate in the 2016 JUNO Awards and JUNO Week celebrations over March 28-April 3. The awards will be broadcast Live on CTV from The Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

Nominees include two different CD’s with Violinist James Ehnes. Album of the year nominees includes Angela Hewitt‘s Liszt Piano Sonata & Sonnets, and Berlin Sonatas by Montreal-based cellist Elinor Frey, as well as RCM’s ensemble-in-residence ARC Ensemble, Toronto’s Cecilia String Quartet and Stewart Goodyear.

Composition nominees include Dinuk Wijeratne and new Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s RBC Affiliate Composer Jordan Pal. Montrealers Nicole Lizée and Michael Oesterle, and Ontario’s John Burge also made the list.

In the vocal category Suzie Leblanc, Claire de Sévigné, Maria Soulis, Andrea Ludwig, Charles Daniels, John Potter and Marie-Nicole Lemieux are up for the award.
