The Toronto Symphony Orchestra names Adrian Fung as new Vice-President, Innovation

The Toronto Symphony’s CEO Jeff Melanson announced today a new role in the management the team, of Vice-President, Innovation. Heading the position will be Adrian Fung, who will begin his new role on October 13, 2015. His duties will encompass working with the TSO’s education and outreach programs, and fostering new collaborations focused on artistic, social, and economic innovation.

In a press release statement, Melanson stated, “As a musician himself, Adrian Fung is an incredible addition to our team, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a unique combination of artistic and business skills to this new role. We look forward to working with Adrian as we continue to foster innovation and growth at the TSO and are excited to have him join our strong and diverse leadership team.”

Adrian Fung is a founding member of the Afiara Quartet, and currently working in his role as Artistic Director of Mooredale Concerts. His experience includes four-years working as RBC Young Artistic Director for Festival of the Sound.

He holds degrees from San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School, and also earned an MBA from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

As a musician, he won the Concert Artist Guild International Competition in New York, the Young Canadian Musicians Award, and top prizes at the Munich ARD and Banff International String Quartet Competitions, including the latter’s Székely Prize for Best Interpretation of Beethoven.

Most recently, Fung produced Afiara Quartet’s “Spin Cycle,” a project that was highly praised last spring on Musical Toronto/Toronto Star.
