COOL STUFF #9 | The Wheelharp

By Ludwig Van on October 5, 2015

wheelharp

Meet the Wheelharp: a barrel-shaped keyboard instrument that sounds like a cross between an accordion and a hurdy-gurdy. Here, film composer Nicholas Pike demonstrates the instrument originally built by Jon Jones & Sons. What makes it unique is that it bows the strings rather than hammers them like other keyboard instruments. It was fully restored by Antiquity Music, and introduced at the 2013 NAMM. If you want one you can buy them for $12,500. No biggie.

Film composers always have the coolest stuff, don’t they?
