Announced today, The Royal Conservatory of Music will be awarding singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie, violinist James Ehnes, and jazz pianist and real estate developer Mario Romano with Honorary Fellowships.

Dr. Peter Simon, President and CEO of The Royal Conservatory stated, “James Ehnes, Mario Romano, and Buffy Sainte-Marie have made outstanding international contributions not only as acclaimed performing artists, but also as educators, philanthropists, or activists. Their Honorary Fellowships are richly deserved.”

The award is the highest honour given by the RCM, and includes musical luminaries Bruce Cockburn, Sir Andrew Davis, Leslie Feist, David Foster, Leon Fleisher, Oscar Peterson, Bramwell Tovey, and The Tragically Hip.

The awards will be given during RCM’s annual fundraising event, The Royal Occasion, on May 14, 2015 at Koerner Hall. The event will include a short performance by each award winner, as well as Joaquin Valdepeñas, Glenn Gould School Resident Conductor, with students, faculty, and alumni of The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School and Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists.
