Toronto Symphony Orchestra Appoints New Musicians for 2014/15 Season

The Toronto Symphony have just announced the appointment of two new full-time musicians to the 2014/15 season, including Steven Woomert, Associate Principal Trumpet and Amy Zoloto, Bass Clarinet and Clarinet.

Steven Woomert, Associate Principal Trumpet recently completed his Artist’s Diploma at the Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory, where he studied with TSO Principal Trumpet Andrew McCandless and won the 2013 International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Excerpts Competition. Steven holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University and has recently performed with the New World Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. A native of Toronto, Steven was a member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, in which he won the 2008 Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. His father, Barton Woomert, was Associate Principal Trumpet of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra for 32 years until he retired in 2014. Beginning with a blind audition, Steven won the position earlier this year.

Amy Zoloto, Bass Clarinet and Clarinet joins the TSO for her first full season after previous seasons with the New York Philharmonic and Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. Amy is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, and has taught masterclasses at Manhattan School of Music, coached the New York Youth Symphony, and was an adjunct professor at University of Florida, Gainesville. She has performed and toured with The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera companies, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, and the American Symphony Orchestra and participated in the Bard Music Festival, Colorado Music Festival, and Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan. As a chamber music performer, Amy has appeared in New York Philharmonic chamber concerts, was a member of the Sylvan Winds, and toured Europe with the Jeunesse Musicale Wind Quintet.

The TSO and Director Peter Oundjian, will open the season on Thursday, September 18 with Joshua Bell, performing Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole. See here for more season info.
