The Baltimore Sun has just reported that yet another oboe has been stolen in Montreal, this time from a Montreal hotel on Tuesday morning. It belongs to Katherine Needleman, Principal Oboe of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

In an interview with the Sun, Ms. Needleman said the oboe is a one of a kind prototype made by Yamaha. She believed they knew what they were looking for and it may have been stolen while her luggage was being loaded into her car.

The thief (or thieves) also took off with a computer as well as some other less valuable items.

Ms. Needleman  said she fears the worst, believing the one-of-a-kind instrument would not be that valuable as it does not carry a serial number. “I don’t think you could sell it for more than a couple hundred bucks, really,” she told the Sun.

A few weeks ago, we reported that an oboe owned by Ron Cohen Mann had also been stolen in Montreal. A plea went out with a hefty reward, but it has yet to be recovered.

Oddly, Needman’s oboe was stolen just three blocks away from where Mann’s was also stolen.

In a hopes of getting her oboe back in time for the opening of the BSO season, Needleman is offering a $1,000 reward.

Anyone with information are asked to contact the Montreal police at 514-393-1133.
