Video: Robin Williams - A Night at the Met

In honour of the sad passing of comedian Robin Williams on Monday, August 11th, we’d like to share a video of the opening monologue of a landmark performance at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1986.

In the entirely improvised routine, Williams hilariously touches upon The Met’s décor, Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and others.

This is Williams at the top of his game, and was filmed the year before his performance in the hit film Good Morning, Vietnam. The performance was also released as an album that eventually went on to win a Grammy Award for “Best Comedy Performance Single or Album, Spoken or Musical” in 1988.

There is a thin line between comedy and tragedy…

Our deepest condolences go out to Williams’ family and friends.
