It is no secret there are a number of misgivings over the controversial commissioning of Rufus Wainwright’s upcoming opera Hadrian, slated for the 2018/19 Canadian Opera Company season.

Readers might recall Musical Toronto’s John Terauds aptly expressing those here. The comments section is also an interesting read in itself.

But thus far we haven’t heard much from Daniel MacIvor, the playwright-performer writing the libretto for the new work.

This week Jenna Douglas, from the opera blog Schmopera, caught up with Daniel MacIvor at the The Banff Centre, to discuss his theatrical background, his search for the authentic, and his experience discovering the world of opera anew.
