Word of mouth has it that the summer of 2013 will be a better-than-average vintage for summer classical music festival attendance in southern Ontario.

Toronto Summer Music Festival artistic director Douglas McNabney told me last night that, with four days to go, the 8th annual three-week affair has sold 25 per cent more tickets than in 2012.

At the end of the first 10 days of its six-week run, Stratford Summer Music artistic producer John Miller says that the festival has already met 80 per cent of its ticket goals.

Similarly, Christopher Blake of Music Niagara reports that this will be the festival’s best year yet for attendance and ticket sales.

This summer’s weather may be giving people little to cheer about, but music is.
