New Music Concerts announces eight-concert 2013-14 season

New Music Concerts has announced its 2013-14 season of eight concerts, seven of which are available by subscription.

Here is the lineup, as presented in the company’s press release. Founding artistic director Robert Aitken continues to lead all the ensemble performances:

October 6  at Betty Oliphant Theatre: Stefan meets Anton and Morty meets John, curated by Austin Clarkson
New Music Concerts Ensemble, Robert Aitken direction; Accordes
Works by Stefan Wolpe, Anton Webern, Morton Feldman and John Cage.
There will be a symposium on site in the afternoon; details to be confirmed.

November 1 at Betty Oliphant Theatre: David Eagle and the Art of Interactive Electronics
Xin Wang, soprano; Julia Den Boer, piano; Katelyn Clark, harpsichord; Rachel Mercer, cello;
New Music Concerts Ensemble, Robert Aitken direction
Works by David Eagle, Anna Pidgorna, Anthony Tan, Jimmie LeBlanc and Hans Tutschku

December 14 at Betty Oliphant Theatre: A Percussive Evening with Jean-Pierre Drouet
Jean-Pierre Drouet, solo percussion
Works by Vinko Globokar, Mauricio Kagel, Georges Aperghis, Frederic Rzewski and Giorgio Battistelli

January 19 at the Music Gallery: From Atlantic Shores featuring Motion Ensemble
Works by Jerôme Blais, Paul Steffler, Kevin Morse, Lucas Oickle, Derek Charke, Sandy Moore, Anthony Genge and WL Altman

March 20 in conjunction with Music Toronto at Jane Mallett Theatre: An Evening with the Arditti String Quartet
Works written for Arditti by Elliott Carter, Hilda Paredes, Brian Ferneyhough and Helmet Lachenmann

April 18 at Betty Oliphant Theatre: A Portrait of Jörg Widmann
Jörg Widmann, clarinet; New Music Concerts Ensemble, Robert Aitken direction

May 17  (a non-subscription event) at Gallery 345: An Evening with pipa virtuoso Wei-wei Lan
Lan will perform a variety of solo works for pipa (solid-bodied Chinese lute) demonstrating the instrument’s versatility in the context of traditional and folk music as well as contemporary pieces composed especially for her.

May 21 as part of the 21C Music Festival at Mazzoleni Hall: Beijing Composers with Wei-wei Lan
