Video: Toronto Symphony composer Kevin Lau pulls back curtain on pre-premiere prep

kevinOn Wednesday, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra premieres Treeship, a new piece by its affiliate composer Kevin Lau. In a rare peek behind the scenes, the organization has posted a video of what has gone into making the piece premiere-ready.

In 8 minutes of candour, Lau discusses not only what his music is about, but the little changes that he will have made between the first reading earlier this spring and this week’s premiere — some based on his own impressions, but most based on feedback received from all of the symphony musicians and music director Peter Oundjian.
