Besides her current judging gig with Canada’s Got Talent, soprano Measha Brueggergosman is taking a seriously un-classical turn in her musical life.
A press release issued this morning announces the details of Brueggergosman’s new album, recorded during live performances at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax, as well as her hometown of Fredericton last month.
I’ve Got a Crush on You, co-produced by Brueggergosman and jazz pianist Aaron Davis, will be released by Ottawa-based Kelp Records on April 17.

According to the press release, the album includes Leslie Feist’s “Cicadas and Gulls,” Ron Sexsmith’s “Secret Heart,” Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides, Now” and Lennie Gallant’s “Tonight I Drive You Home.”
The album also features a new duet co-written and performed by David Myles and Brueggergosman called, “Whole To My Half.” There’s music by George and Ira Gershwin — the title track, “I’ve Got A Crush On You” and “Embraceable You.” Cole Porter contributes “Miss Otis Regrets.” There’s also a version of Errol Garner’s “Misty.”
The singer has also included spirituals (which must’ve been fun to hear in a bar) “I Come To The Garden” and “Ride On, King Jesus,” a Spanish song, “Nana,” by Manuel de Falla) and a duet with Lennie Gallant in the traditional Acadian tune, “Partons, la mer est belle.”
The album’s release tour begins in Toronto on April 20, at Trinity-St. Paul’s Church. Other Ontario dates include the Meaford Theatre on May 3, the Grand Theatre in Kingston, on May 4, and the Showplace Theatre in Peterborough, on May 17.
